Hey Curtis - nice shot. You can embed these images in your posts, but please also add some text. Were you asking a question or just posting an image? If just posting an image, please do so in your profile, which will also populate in the photo gallery for NYUPS. Thanks!

Can anyone suggest a place to go to learn about cameras and housings? Unfortunately, I will be in Bonaire while Beneath the Sea is happening. That would be have been the best learning ground. But things like this--I was looking at the Canon G11. What is the difference between the FISHEYE housing, the Ikelite housing and the Canon housing (other than a lot of money)?

thanks

The Canon housing offers the least access to all of your controls and limits potential strobe connections, however it is the least expensive.

The Ikelite and Fisheye offer access to all pertinent controls, and are both solidly constructed. The Ikelite is a polycarbonate housing and the Fisheye is aluminum, both offer different accessy lenses. The Fisheye you will only be able to connect a fiber optic strobe cable while the Ikelite you would have the option of a regular synced strobe. To a degree it's six and one half dozen between the Kielite and Fisheye, you'd be happy with both. Just don't stick with the Canon case because it is very limiting.

Hi there,

I have a canon camera + housing and recently bought Sea&Sea underwater flash to it. I went on a scuba diving trip to Micronesia and afterwards to Belize and used this camera but since I didn't get any training, I wasn't so satisfied with my results.
Do you know any place in NYC that I can learn how to use my camera for underwater divings?

Thanks,

Amir

You have a few options. First, read the Getting Started section of DPG here:
http://www.divephotoguide.com/getting-started-with-underwater-photo...

You will notice that there are links to the find a local PADI Digital Underwater Photographer Course. You may want to try that locally...

But one of the best ways to learn is to go on a photo trip. We organize several each year, but they sell out fast. Here is the schedule:
http://www.divephotoguide.com/underwater-photography-trips/

These are immersive trips, where I or another professional phgotographer can give you some personal guidance, provide seminars and you will come back way better than than when you started.

I will also be the guest "photographer in residence" for a week at Kima Bajo in Manado if you can get away quickly (mid May). This would also give you a chance to learn hands-on:

Feel free to email me anytime (jason-at-divephotoguide-dot-com)
