Matt Weiss and Keri Wilk from DivePhotoGuide recently took the Nikon D800, Nauticam housing, and Sea & Sea YS-D1 strobes to Mexico. They gave all this new gear a complete workout in the Cenotes of the Yucatan Peninsula. Besides all the new toys, the team brought down 17 strobes! Their plan was to photograph these beautiful decorated cave systems the way architectural photographers would light a room interior. At our June meeting Matt will talk about all the new equiment and what it was like to use multi-lighting techniques in an underwater cave. After Matt’s talk , we invite you to share your images where you used multi-lighting techniques or off-camera lighting. We ask that you bring no more than 10 images that we will go over in detail. We want to spend time not only hearing how you took the photo, but discussing how they could have been improved.
The ideal size of each landscape orientation image is 10” wide x 7.5” high – no larger. If an image is portrait, the image should be no more than 7.5” high x whatever width (certainly less than 10”.) If you size your images by pixels, the images should be a maximum of 720 pixels wide by 540 pixels high for landscape, and 540 pixels high for portrait.
All images should be 72 DPI, or pixels per inch, and .JPG files If you would like to submit videos, please bring them to the meeting as Quicktime files on flash drive, CD or DVD. Videos should be clips less then 5 minutes each. In your email, on the subject line please type in caps “NYUPS images: Multi-lighting.” Please email all your images to Steve Edelstein at firstname.lastname@example.org, and CC Larry Cohen at email@example.com.
DATE OF SUBMISSION-
Please submit images before 06/01/12. Any images submitted after that cannot be included. You will receive a confirmation of the receipt of your images. If you don’t, please contact Steve Edelstein at firstname.lastname@example.org, and cc Larry Cohen at Larry@liquidimagesuw.com.
Please note that you do not need to submit images to attend the meeting – feel free to just come and enjoy the images, share and learn a little about improving your underwater Multi-lighting techniques! We want to stress that all of our meetings are for photographers of all levels. It doesn't matter what camera you use or how long you've been shooting, NYUPS wants to share the joys of underwater imaging with everyone interested.
A reminder – this is not a competition. The idea is to share photos that you think will help others and yourself learn about lighting. It might even be helpful to try and recall the camera settings, whether you have a compact or big ol’ SLR. We look forward to seeing your images and sharing food and drink with you at Artctica Bar & Grill On Tuesday, June 5th !
