- January 16, 2012
- Arctica Bar & Grill
384 3rd Ave (27th & 28th st), New York, NY, United States
Shooting big animals underwater is one of the more difficult aspects of underwater photography. Sharks, whales, dolphins, rays, sea lions, manatees, and other "big animals" evoke emotion and awe. The action is sometimes fast moving, and the subjects don't always cooperate or come as close as you'd want. But the experiences are unforgettable – and when you do get the shot, it's well worth the frustration of all the times you don't!
That's why our May meeting is dedicated to big animals.
We encourage you to submit up to 10 of your favorite big animal shots. As always, feel free to include images for which you would like to hear the group's recommendations.
The focus of the meeting will be to share, discuss, and learn about shooting big animals underwater.
IMAGE SPECS: The ideal size of each landscape orientation image is 10” wide x 7.5” high – no larger. If an image is portrait, the image should be no more than 7.5” high x whatever width (certainly less than 10”.) If you size your images by pixels, the images should be a maximum of 720 pixels wide by 540 pixels high for landscape, and 540 pixels high for portrait. All images should be 72 DPI, or pixels per inch, and .JPG file type.
If you would like to submit videos, please bring them to the meeting as Quicktime files on flash drive, CD or DVD. Videos should be clips less then 5 minutes each.
In your email, on the subject line please type in caps “NYUPS images- Composition". Please email all your images to Steve Edelstein at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Date of submission: Images will be cheerfully accepted for the upcoming meeting until the Sunday evening before the meeting. Any images submitted after that cannot be included. You will receive a confirmation of the receipt of your images. If you don’t, please contact Steve Edelstein, and cc Larry Cohen at Larry@liquidimagesuw.com
Please note that you do not need to submit images to attend the meeting – you can feel free to just come and enjoy the images, share and learn a little about big animal photography! We want to stress that all of our meetings are for photographers of all levels. It doesn't matter what camera you use or how long you've been shooting, NYUPS wants to share the joys of underwater imaging with everyone interested.
A reminder that this is not a competition. The idea is to share your best or favorite images & video, and let other UW photographers know your techniques and the thought process that went into it, and also learn from the group.
As always, the admission to the event is free, but only by RSVP. Please RSVP to rsvp@NYUPS.org.
We look forward to seeing your images and sharing food and drink with you at Artctica Bar & Grill!!
