September Meeting: “Almost!”
September 1, 2009 7:00 pm
September 1, 2009 10:00 pm
January 16, 2012
Arctica Bar & Grill
384 3rd Ave (27th & 28th st), New York, NY, United States

Underwater photography poses so many challenges – water absorbing light, balancing exposure, keeping batteries charged, shooting moving objects, maintaining perfect buoyancy, and of course all within a limited time underwater. Often when you nail the shot, it is something to celebrate!
In each of our photo collections are a series of "Almost" shots – the almost great or perfect shots that never get shared. Many of these shots have interesting stories behind them. You hear it all the time "if only that shark was facing me", "if only that diver's fin didn't get in the way!", "if only my strobe battery didn't die".
So the September meeting is dedicated to the stories of your favorite "Almost Images".
We encourage you to submit up to 10 of your most frustrating shots with interesting stories behind them.
IMAGE SPECS: The ideal size of each landscape orientation image is 10” wide x 7.5” high – no larger. If an image is portrait, the image should be no more than 7.5” high x whatever width (certainly less than 10”.) If you size your images by pixels, the images should be a maximum of 720 pixels wide by 540 pixels high for landscape, and 540 pixels high for portrait. All images should be 72 DPI, or pixels per inch, and .JPG file type.
If you would like to submit "Almsot Videos", please bring them to the meeting as Quicktime files on flash drive, CD or DVD. Videos should be clips less then 5 minutes each.
In your email, on the subject line please type in caps “NYUPS images- Almost". Please email all your images to Steve Edelstein at
Date of submission: Images will be cheerfully accepted for the upcoming meeting until the Sunday evening before the meeting. Any images submitted after that cannot be included. You will receive a confirmation of the receipt of your images. If you don’t, please contact Steve Edelstein, and cc Larry Cohen at
Please note that you do not need to submit images to attend the meeting – feel free to just come and enjoy the images! We want to stress that all of our meetings are for photographers of all levels. It doesn't matter what camera you use or how long you've been shooting, NYUPS wants to share the joys of underwater imaging with everyone interested.
As always, the admission to the event is free, but only by RSVP. Please RSVP to
