Remember that feeling the first time you took a camera underwater- that unbridled joy and curiosity, almost as if you were seeing the underwater world for the first time all over again? Hopefully this very same passion follows you on every dive; but it you find yourself tired of the same-old still images, there is a way to capture that feeling once again- with video.
Like still photography, underwater videography requires practice, technique, and the right equipment; but with by following a few simple rules you too can use your SLR to produce videos just like those on Discovery or Nat Geo. Join NYUPS as award-winning videographer Michael Rothschild introduces us to the fascinating world of “DSLR Underwater Videography.”
Michael is a member of Oceanblue Divers, the Dive Chair of the New York Sea Gypsies, and he frequently presents his work to the New York Underwater Photography Society.
In addition to warm water destinations, Mike enjoys diving in and sharing images of colder waters, including the Pacific Northwest and especially our own backyard: the Dutch Springs Quarry and the Atlantic waters off New York and New Jersey. He was recently published in Northeast Dive News magazine, where his photographs illustrated his article on diving in the New York City area.
Michael’s presentation will focus on the use of modern digital still cameras for videography, including several examples of video shot on local dives, a discussion of the advantages of DSLRs in this setting, as well as a review of housings, lighting and post-production editing techniques.
We want to stress that all of our meetings are for photographers (and videographers) of all levels. It doesn't matter what camera you use or how long you've been shooting, NYUPS wants to share the joys of underwater imaging with everyone interested. As always, the admission to the event is free, but only by RSVP.
Please RSVP to rsvp@NYUPS.org.We look forward to seeing you and sharing food and drink at Artctica Bar & Grill!!
