September Meeting: "Almost!" at Arctica Bar & Grill
September 1, 2009 from 7pm to 10:30pm
Underwater photography poses so many challenges - water absorbing light, balancing exposure, keeping batteries charged, shooting moving objects, maintaining perfect buoyancy, and of course all within a limited time underwater. Often when you nail th…

Hello to all -- I am heading out to Indonesia (Fak Fak) on a trip in late November/early December. I have a Gates FX7 housing, superwide angle lens and Squid 250 lights+batteries with all the associated UCLS buoyancy arms clamps etc etc. I'm well us…

Shooting big animals underwater is one of the more difficult aspects of underwater photography. Sharks, whales, dolphins, rays, sea lions, manatees, and other "big animals" evoke emotion and awe. The action is sometimes fast moving, and the subjects…

Eva,

I might be going to Galapagos to dive with whale sharks. How do you like the Gates super wide angle lens ? It's very expensive, but I think it might be worth it especially in Galapagos.

How Many Dives Per Year?
As many as I can get & hold down a job.....
Have You Attended An NYUPS Event?
Yes
What Was Your Favorite Dive Ever?
Lands End, Cornwall - launching out of Porthgwarra with a flubber.....particularly Logan Rock. Absolutely beautiful on a Summer day, with a chance of basking sharks to finish it off! I dived there before I had enough money to start buying much video/photography gear. I aim to go back and document how beautiful it is for myself and others. Particularly those wimps who won't dive coldwater :-)
What Underwater Photo or Video Equipment Do you Use?
I shoot photos with 1) a Nikonos V & either Nikon SB102 flash or Ikelite DS125 & 2) Canon 10D in Ikelite housing with two Ikelite DS125 flashes. I aim to upgrade the digital camera & housing when I have the moolah. I shoot video with: 1) Sony SR8 in a Seatool housing with a Fisheye DGX200 light (nice & bijou) and 2) Sony HDR-FX7 in a Gates housing with Squid250 lights & FII batteries. The latter is my "Mack Truck" and pretty much travels as a 2nd person when you include excess baggage fees!
What State Do you Reside In?
NY
